Real Madrid have revealed the club's plans to remodel the Santiago Bernabeu have been dismissed by the Spanish court. In an official statement, Madrid confirmed the club "will work with the City Council and the Community of Madrid to address those aspects that require attention in order to make the Santiago Bernabeu reform project viable.".

Plans for the rebuild included a new "skin" for the arena, as well as a hotel complex in the stadium's vicinity. An image showing the potential changes was provided by the Daily Mail, tweeted via Real Madrid News: In January, Sid Lowe of The Guardian noted the European champions also have plans to add an Abu Dhabi prefix to the stadium's name after agreeing a sponsorship deal with the United Arab Emirates-based group.

Real Madrid announced plans just over a year ago to make the Bernabeu “the best stadium in the world” with an estimated £297million development, which would include the construction of retail, leisure and restaurant zones, a hotel and underground parking.

The agreement signed in 2012 would have seen the land in Opanel handed back to the council as well as a public park created on one corner of the ground in exchange for the commercial development next to the stadium.
